Miscellaneous Work From the Past and Future

It has come to my attention that this man is awesome: Daarken (Art and Cookies)

Seeing the entire scale of an artist's ability from childhood to adulthood career is a fantastic blessing, made possibly by the loving parents who refuse to through out your young doodles. Daarken does a spectacular job of describing so many specific things that he improved upon over the years, along with specific events that triggered "jumps" in talent. He also highlights the important of working your ass off, claiming to to have attended life drawing sessions 4 times a week in school. I believe him whole-heartedly.

What this means for me is that now that I'm entering my senior year...holy hell do I need to work my ass off. Fellow students at Digipen tell me that you're supposed to leave behind the notion of "talent" and work nonstop until you're good. What happens when you mix "natural talent" and back-breaking effort? The technical rigor of tech institute with the cultural breadth of a liberal arts school?

Maybe I'll find out...

I totally wanted to copy Draaken's childhood-to-now post, but it turns out that I really don't have any of my older work with me. The only good comparison I have is a figure painting I did junior year of high school and one of my figure paintings from this past semester.
What's funny is seeing how much I've grown...and how much they're kind of similar. While the figure orgy doesn't have any prominent line work, it does have a sort of amateur edgy feel to it; a quality that I feel I've expanded upon and adopted as my dominant style. Once I return back to Lancaster, I'll definitely root through the archives to find more older work for more comparisons.

Now onto...class work from Digipen! The previous and current assignments involve correcting the perspective of a 15 second sketch and fully illustrating them. As someone who works predominantly with the figure, this presents a lot of different challenges all at once.
My favorite part? The tree on the right.

Still in progress

Fun fun! This Friday my second class starts up, so I'll have a new source of material for updates.

Stay tuned for more Fluffy Blast stuff!
