Image Blitz

I guess I have a major backlog of stuff to post! I'm having a sort of block with my anatomy study right now. While the figure drawings I'm making from it are some of my best drawings yet, they're all just surface level studies, and my intention is to explore all layers of the body. Fortunately I finally received funding for my study, so I can purchase a subscription to A.D.AM. Interactive Anatomy, a 3D viewing tool that will REALLY help out with visualizing the underlying structure of my drawings.

I guess a something worthwhile I've discovered is just what exactly the drawbacks are of working with anatomy textbooks. All their illustrations were made by artists who made specific choices on how to present their material, which I imagine involves a significant amount of idealization...Which means no person matches the diagrams. How do illustrators/artists choose what the ideal human figure is? Everyone has a different body type, and the only way to look at their actual muscles is when they're dead (and shriveled). There's a lot of detective work I have to do...

Yes, I am actually producing work in my printmaking class (though at a much slower rate). We've worked on blocks and etchings so far, and have now moved on to solar plates.

I'm calling the painting on the left officially finished. While the sidewalk is still pretty drippy, I've exhausted my energy for the painting. I still need to finish the one on the right, but we've already moved onto our second project...toys.

Last class we got to visit our professor's son's toy room and relive our best childhood memories. The class took at least several hundred photos of lego people and toy soldiers piled up high as sacrifices for the dark gods of our imaginations. Because I was using my professor's camera, I don't have any of the pictures with me yet, but I will at the very least say that there will be dragons. In full 3' by 4' technocolor.
