Aw crud. Missed a day. That's not supposed to happen until the fall semester starts!
Anyway, today I have some of the finer torsos that I drew as companions to my prior orthographic drawings. Before I was working with nothing but graphite, but this time I decided to use some soft charcoal again. The tragic feature of using soft charcoal (at least for me) is that even if I use fixative to protect the drawing, the charcoal is so soft that some of it gets disturbed by the spray...All of my charcoal drawings only experience a few minutes of peak quality before deteriorating...;_; Perhaps I need to move on to new surfaces?
Now, another unfortunate fact is most of my Digipen work so far has been confined to a 9" x 12" sketchbook, which goes against one of my Goals of Training: working on consistently larger surfaces. The professors actually prefer that we don't get too large, due to the constraints of their scanners. That, and the focus on digital artwork makes the issue of size relatively insignificant. However, I do have a spankin' new 18'x24' pad of very high quality paper that shall see much use upon my return to F&M.
I'm also in the process of expanding upon my previous orthographic drawing; adding new muscles and refining the old. The bottom image is the newer version (and technically female), that will form the basis of my final drawings for the class.
