Wow! I'm almost back to posting on a regular schedule! I guess that means I'm being productive?
This semester, I have three painting classes, one of which is my senior seminar. For the longest time I had no idea what I was going to do for the senior show...that is, until I took that ugly fish photo. After doing a few studies, I decided that the theme for my senior show would be meat.
Which has an unexpected relationship to my independent study. What quality of painting sets apart people with identities from just plain old meat? Hopefully I'll find that out...
I did not expect this bird's eye view scan of a head to look like some sort of death metal bird skull. Strange.
I'm packing away the train project for now so I can focus on other things. My next idea for my landscape class started with an image of terraced farmland. From that, I started thinking about topography maps and how line and color describe ideas differently than a regular landscape. I believe the repeating lines of such images have an almost meditative quality, something I hope to invoke in future paintings.

By inventing my own landscapes, I'll hopefully be able to explore and abstract the concept into something truly unique.
